This is a microfiction I entered in a competition. The requirement was a story that was exactly 80 words.

The first time I went to the Sea Witch, I brought a necklace of broken glass. ‘And in return?’ she asked.

‘I’ll tell you tomorrow,’ I replied.

The second time I went to the Sea Witch, I brought a message in a bottle. ‘What magic does this buy?’

‘I’ll come again and tell you then.’

The third time I went to the Sea Witch, I held out my empty hands. She took them, and I knew the price was paid.
